Our Mission & Vision
The mission of Fayette Church of Christ is to love God, to love others, and to magnify the name of Jesus Christ. The vision of the Fayette Church of Christ is to glorify our God and Savior, Jesus Christ, to make true disciples throughout all the nations by means of missionary activity and support, to minister the ordinances, to edify believers, and to do all that is sovereignly possible and biblically permissible to magnify the name of Jesus.
About Us:
The church of Christ was established on the day of Pentecost following the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ from the grave (Acts 2). It is not denominational, nor is it even non-denominational, for when it was founded, the idea of a denomination had not yet been born in the minds of men. It has neither creed nor other man-made guide, but relies solely upon the word of God for its guidance and direction. It was founded by Christ (Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 5:25), with Christ still remaining as its head (Ephesians 1:22-23; Colossians 1:18).
Those who are members of the body of Christ are in His church (Galatians 3:27; Colossians 3:15). To be added to the church by God (Acts 2:47), one must be obedient to that which has been commanded by God. One must believe in Christ (John 3:36), repent of sins (Acts 17:30), confess their faith in Christ (Acts 8:26-27), and be baptized into Christ (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16). Salvation is in Christ (2 Timothy 2:10), but one cannot get into Christ except by baptism (Galatians 3:27).
Our Identity:
We are every-day people desiring to be mere Christians. We seek simply to study and practice the only Word of God, the Bible. We are not bound by denominational ties, traditions, doctrines, or organizations. We are not a denomination. We have no creeds or confessions of faith; the Bible alone is our source of faith (Romans 10:17). We strive to practice simple New Testament Christianity. We desire to be the church that Christ built (Matthew 16:18)–the church of Christ (Romans 16:16).
Our Worship:
You may notice that our worship is distinctive. We do not use instrumental music. We do, however, believe in music. The New Testament tells us that worship music under Christ’s rule is singing words with one another in praise to God (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16) to teach and admonish each other. We also partake of the Lord’s Supper every first day of the week as the Bible teaches us to do (Acts 20:7). Our preaching is also distinctive. We seek to “speak as the oracles of God” (1 Peter 4:11), so you will hear many scripture quotations in the sermon. We give as we are prospered (1 Corinthians 16:1-2). We pray to the Father through the Son (Colossians 3:17). Our worship is not glamorous nor is it done for entertainment, rather it is what God expects of us, to worship in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).
